Sales of aquaculture products and services increased 47.0% from 2015 to $1.339 billion in 2016. The increase in sales was largely attributable to higher prices of finfish products, as finfish production rose a modest 6.0%.
Finfish sales, which accounted for 93.2% of sales of aquaculture products and services in 2016, increased 51.1% to $1.248 billion.
The gross value added to the economy by the aquaculture industry increased 228.8% from 2015 to $591.2 million. The increase was primarily the result of rising operating revenue.
The value of total exports of farmed salmon including fillets increased by 38.3%, while the value of farmed mussel exports increased by 13.5% compared with 2015.

Canadian export statistics are obtained from administrative records.
Revenue, expense and inventory data come from the 2016 Annual Survey of the Aquaculture Industry.
