Average operating revenues per farm in Canada amounted to $418,080 in 2014, up 7.7% from 2013, according to taxation records.
All 11 major farm types posted higher average operating revenues. Hog farms had the largest increase (+25.5%), followed by beef cattle farms (+20.8%), and greenhouse, nursery and floriculture operations (+15.1%).
Average operating expenses rose 8.9% to $347,084, with the largest increases coming from hog farms (+17.2%), beef cattle farms (+16.7%), and greenhouse, nursery and floriculture operations (+16.2%).
Average operating revenues increased in every province in 2014 except Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. Newfoundland and Labrador (+22.5%), Saskatchewan (+14.4%) and Alberta (+10.3%) recorded gains above the national average.
