As part of the 2015 comprehensive revision of the Canadian System of Macroeconomic Accounts, the provincial–territorial gross domestic product (GDP) by industry data in chained (2007) dollars from 1997 to 2006 are being released today. These data have been aligned with those published on November 10, 2015, for the 2007-to-2014 period.
In addition, the chained (2007) dollars data for the provincial and territorial GDP for the following three aggregates, released on November 10, 2015 were revised for the 2007-to-2014 period: information and communication technology (total); information and communication technology (manufacturing); and information and communication technology (services). Revisions did not affect the growth rates for these three series for the 2008-to-2014 period.
Note to readers
The provincial and territorial gross domestic product (GDP) by industry data at basic prices are chained volume estimates with 2007 as their reference year. This means that the data for each industry and aggregate are obtained from a chained volume index multiplied by the industry's value added in 2007.
Percentage changes for GDP by industry are calculated using volume measures, that is, adjusted for price variations.
A document describing the approach used to backcast the revised provincial and territorial GDP by industry data for the 1997-to-2006 period will be released early in 2016.
