Total stocks for wheat, canola, dry peas, lentils and oats were up as of July 31, while stocks of barley were down compared with the same date one year earlier.
Wheat stocks up on higher supply
Total stocks of wheat rose 56.8% year over year to 6.6 million tonnes as of July 31. Both commercial (+72.5% to 4.1 million tonnes) and on-farm (+36.4% to 2.5 million tonnes) stocks were up compared with one year earlier, largely because of record high wheat production for the crop year. The increase in total wheat stocks was attributable both to stocks of wheat excluding durum (+48.8% to 5.5 million tonnes) and to durum wheat stocks (+115.2% to 1.1 million tonnes).
Deliveries of wheat rose 9.6% year over year to 38.3 million tonnes as of July 31. Total wheat exports rose 1.5% to a record 29.7 million tonnes.
Canola stocks rise while crush continues to expand
Total stocks of canola increased 18.9% year over year to 1.9 million tonnes as of July 31 due to higher on-farm stocks, rising 121.4% to 837 000 tonnes, while commercial stocks fell 12.8% to 1.1 million tonnes.
Industrial use, mostly for crushing, hit record levels once again, rising 13.0% to 12.9 million tonnes as the processing industry continued to expand to meet demands for renewable fuels.
Canola exports fell 4.5% to 9.0 million tonnes as of July 31. The decrease was largely the result of slower exports in the first half of the year when tariffs imposed by China reduced export demand.
Higher stocks of dry peas and lentils
Total stocks of dry peas rose 141.7% year over year to 1.2 million tonnes as of July 31. On-farm stocks rose 245.8% to 875 000 tonnes, while commercial stocks increased 29.7% to 306 000 tonnes. Higher production of dry peas throughout the 2025 growing season led to higher stocks.
Exports of dry peas rose 22.2% to 2.7 million tonnes as of July 31.
Stocks of lentils totalled 1.3 million tonnes (+128.9%) as of July 31, largely because of higher total supply compared with one year earlier. On-farm stocks more than doubled to 1.1 million tonnes, while commercial stocks were up 26.0% to 194 000 tonnes.
Exports of lentils increased 32.6% year over year to 2.4 million tonnes.
Barley stocks fall
Barley stocks were down 24.7% from the previous crop year to 940 000 tonnes as of July 31. The decrease was attributable to lower on-farm stocks (-37.2% to 624 000 tonnes), while commercial stocks rose 23.9% to 316 000 tonnes.
Deliveries of barley off farm increased 34.6% to 5.5 million tonnes as of July 31, while exports of barley off farm also rose, up 47.1% to 4.2 million tonnes. Barley used largely for animal feed purposes rose 7.9% to 5.5 million tonnes.
Oat stocks rise
Total stocks of oats rose 13.8% year over year to 577 000 tonnes as of July 31. Commercial stocks rose 36.7% to 335 000 tonnes, while on-farm stocks fell 7.3% to 243 000 tonnes.
Higher oat stocks were driven by larger total supply for the crop year (+9.8% to 4.4 million tonnes) and lower oat exports (-6.2% to 2.4 million tonnes).

This new methodology is a continuation of the AgZero initiative, which aims to reduce respondent burden while producing high-quality estimates using alternative methods.
Data on commercial stocks of western major crops originate from the Canadian Grain Commission. Data on commercial stocks of special crops originate from a survey of handlers and agents of special crops.

Stock data are subject to revision during the two years following their initial publication.
