Note to readers
The Waste Management Survey provides comprehensive information about the solid non-hazardous waste produced by Canadians, including waste disposal, diversion from waste disposal facilities, and the source of waste. This information is collected from businesses and municipalities that provide waste management services.
Non-hazardous solid waste disposal is defined as waste that is ultimately sent to public and private waste disposal facilities such as landfills, dump sites, incinerators, and waste to energy facilities. Hazardous waste, biosolids, clean or contaminated soil, bricks, gravel, asphalt, concrete, or waste managed by the waste generator on site are excluded.
