Natural Resources Satellite Account: Human Resource Module, 2024
Released: 2026-06-04
The Human Resources Module (HRM) of the Natural Resources Satellite Account (NRSA) is a product that depicts annual estimates of the number of jobs, hours worked, and wages and salaries consistent with the System of National Accounts concepts, by characteristics of the employees holding those jobs. These characteristics include age group, gender, education level and immigration status.
The NRSA contains information on the number of jobs generated by the sector at the national, provincial and territorial level. The detailed information provided in the HRM complements and enhances the analytical capacity of the NRSA.
Note to readers
Human resource module (HRM) data for 2024 have been released along with the revised data from 2022 to 2023.
The Natural Resources Satellite Account (NRSA) contains information on the number of jobs generated by the sector at the national, provincial and territorial level. The detailed information in the HRM complements and enhances the analytical capacity of the NRSA.
Revisions to classifications and enhancements to the imputation methodology applied to key NRSA inputs have resulted in non-comparability of HRM estimates across time. Consequently, users should exercise caution when interpreting year-over-year changes between reference years 2021 and 2022.
Additional information is presented in the articles, "The Natural Resources Satellite Account: Feasibility Study" and "The Natural Resources Satellite Account – Sources and Methods," which are part of the Income and Expenditure Accounts Technical Series (13-604-M).
Core natural resources: The NRSA defines natural resource activities as those that result in goods and services originating from naturally occurring assets used in economic activity, as well as their initial processing (primary manufacturing).
Downstream activities: Although not part of the core account, natural resources have important downstream effects on other sectors. In general, this production uses a large portion of primary manufactured products as inputs.
