Data availability: 2019 General Social Survey – Canadians' Safety (Victimization)

Today, Statistics Canada is releasing a table from the 2019 General Social Survey – Canadians' Safety (Victimization). The table includes information about incidents of self-reported violent victimization experienced in the 12 months preceding the survey, by the proportion reported to the police, gender of the victim and geography (data table 35-10-0164-01).

Upcoming changes to the Statistics Canada homepage

The General Social Survey – Canadians' Safety (Victimization) provides statistical data to better understand how Canadians perceive crime and the justice system and to capture information on their experiences of victimization.

This survey is a national survey of self-reported victimization and is collected in all provinces and territories. The survey allows for estimates of the numbers and characteristics of victims and criminal incidents.
