Study: The passenger car rental industry in New Brunswick

Released: 2023-04-11

A new article entitled "Enduring effects of the pandemic: The case of the passenger car rental industry in New Brunswick" is published today.

According to this study, despite New Brunswick tourism activity approaching pre-COVID-19 pandemic levels and the economy growing in 2022, the rental car fleet remains significantly below levels attained before the pandemic. Car rental fleet inventories grew in New Brunswick in 2022, but still have a long recovery to fulfill pent-up demand, and this has had implications for the industry. Non-traditional rental car options, such as peer-to-peer car sharing programs, are expanding in urban centres. Also, car rental businesses have not been turning over inventories as quickly in the past two years, and inflationary pressures remain elevated for car rentals.
