Indigenous peoples economic account, 2012 to 2020

Released: 2022-08-29

The Indigenous Peoples Economic Account (IPEA) is now available.

There are few economic estimates specific to Indigenous peoples that are available from Statistics Canada. However, the need for such estimates is growing. To address this data gap, the IPEA has been developed as a feasibility study. This economic account includes Indigenous Peoples Economic Indicators, which estimate the gross domestic product, output and the total number of jobs, as well as a Human Resource Module (HRM). The HRM provides additional demographic and economic information about jobs held by Indigenous paid workers, such as age or education level.

Users will note estimates of the number of paid jobs, hours worked, and wages and salaries. IPEA estimates are available by industry and province and territory. As this is the first iteration of the IPEA, developed as a feasibility study, the estimates are considered preliminary. We are seeking users' feedback to improve potential future releases.
