Release of the Energy and the Environment section on the Canadian Centre for Energy Information portal

Released: 2022-06-13

New today, a collection of indicators and data visualization tools is being released on the Canadian Centre for Energy Information (CCEI) portal, allowing users to visualize key environmental and energy statistics.

The Energy and the Environment section on the CCEI portal is comprised of four pages that have been developed in a collaboration between Statistics Canada and Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC). These pages provide data users with a variety of energy-related environmental topics that include: greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions; energy use by sector; household energy use per capita; zero-emission vehicles; and energy resource reserves. The suite of Energy and Environment pages boasts a total of 17 environmental indicators, 11 data visualizations, and an in-depth description of the GHG emissions data produced by both ECCC and Statistics Canada. The CCEI portal is evergreen and additional environmental datasets will be integrated into the portal over time, including the Air Pollutant Emissions Inventory and Black Carbon Emissions Inventory.

To consult these new tools, visit the Energy and the Environment section on the Canadian Centre for Energy Information portal.

The Canadian Centre for Energy Information (CCEI) portal is a user-friendly, one-stop shop for energy information in Canada. The CCEI works with federal, provincial, and territorial partners to compile, reconcile and integrate energy data from a number of Canadian sources, fill data gaps, and harmonize definitions and standards.

The Energy and the Environment section presents data from both Statistics Canada and Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC), including greenhouse gas emissions data from ECCC's National Inventory Report: Greenhouse Gas Sources and Sinks in Canada and Statistics Canada's Physical Flow Accounts.
