Given the rapidly evolving economic situation, Statistics Canada is providing an advance estimate of sales in the manufacturing sector for October. Advance results indicate that manufacturing sales rose 4.1% in October. The growth was mainly due to higher sales of motor vehicle (+61.3%) and motor vehicle parts (+23.0%) industries.
This estimate was calculated based on a weighted response rate of 60.0%. The average weighted final response rate for the survey over the previous 12 months has been 91.5%. As Statistics Canada continues to collect data for the October reference month, this early indicator is subject to a higher revision rate than our regular monthly release.

The percentage change is calculated using seasonally adjusted data in current dollars.
This flash estimate is a special product published in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic to provide Canadians with timely information on the manufacturing sector. The official estimate of manufacturing sales for the month of October 2021, which will be based on a more complete set of survey and administrative data, is scheduled for release on December 15, 2021.
