Following a 3.0% increase in June, the total number of new motor vehicles sold declined 6.9% in July compared with the same period a year earlier and 12.6% from July 2019. July's lower performance is attributable to a 7.4% decrease in the number of trucks sold, the second consecutive monthly decline for this group of vehicles. In July 2021, 1,778 fewer passenger cars (-5.0%) were sold, following a year-over-year increase of 3,381 passenger cars in June.
Total new motor vehicle sales in dollar terms decreased less than total units, at -1.4% compared with July 2020. Sales of trucks in dollar terms also declined less than units (-1.9%). Passenger car sales in dollar terms increased 1.0% from July 2020.
