Shipments of asphalt shingles totalled 3.3 million metric bundles in April—down 17.7% from the previous month and up 74.2% from April 2020.
Production of asphalt shingles totalled 3.0 million metric bundles in April—down 15.7% from March and up 241.9% from April 2020.
The significant increases in production and shipment levels in April 2021, relative to April 2020, were caused by lower levels at the latter time. These were caused by forced plant and construction site closures combined with reduced demand because of the emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic in early 2020.
