The advertising and related services industry reported $10.5 billion in total operating revenue in 2017, up 6.2% from the previous year. Businesses in Ontario (7.8%) and Quebec (7.6%) fuelled most of the growth and accounted for 81.3% of the industry's revenue.

Business clients in Canada accounted for 79.0% of total sales for the advertising industry in 2017, followed by sales to clients outside Canada (12.2%).

E-commerce made up 5.1% of total sales to all clients.

Total operating expenses rose 4.6% to $9.0 billion in 2017. Salaries, wages, commissions and benefits (40.7%) contributed the most to overall expenses.

The operating profit margin increased from 13.2% in 2016 to 14.5% in 2017.
