Data resulting from the linkage of the 2016 Census of Agriculture and the 2015 Agriculture Taxation Data Program (ATDP) records are now available. In addition to detailed expenses, detailed revenues from the ATDP can now be linked with Census of Agriculture data. Data files are available upon request.

The Census of Agriculture develops a statistical portrait of Canada's farms and its agricultural operators. The data provide users with a comprehensive picture of the major commodities of the agriculture industry, while also supplying information on new or less common crops, livestock, finances and use of technology.

The ATDP is an annual census of unincorporated and incorporated taxfiler records to estimate a range of financial agricultural variables. It uses taxation records to produce detailed data for Canada and the provinces on operating revenues and expenses for the agriculture sector.

  Note to readers

In the 2011 Census of Agriculture, questions about detailed expenses from 2010 were asked on the questionnaire. During the 2016 Census of Agriculture content consultations, a suggestion was made to replace the detailed expense categories on the questionnaire with tax data. This suggestion was well-received by respondents during qualitative testing.

Due to a change in methodology, data users must exercise caution when using linked data from the 2016 Census of Agriculture and the 2015 Agriculture Taxation Data Program (ATDP), and when comparing detailed expenses from the 2015 ATDP with those from previous censuses.
