The For-hire Motor Carrier Freight Services Price Index rose 1.2% in the first quarter, following a 0.8% increase in the fourth quarter of 2016.

Both the general freight trucking component (+1.6%) and the specialized freight trucking component (+0.5%) increased.

Year-over-year change

The index was up 2.4% in the first quarter compared with the same quarter of 2016. This was the first year-over-year increase following nine consecutive quarters of decline. The general freight trucking component increased 3.3% and the specialized freight trucking component rose 0.6%.
