12-month change:

  1. The Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose 1.3% in the 12 months to August, matching the increase in July.
  2. Lower energy prices continued to moderate the year-over-year rise in the CPI, led by the gasoline index, which was down 12.6% year over year in August.
  3. Prices were up in seven of the eight major components on a year-over-year basis in August, with the rise in the CPI being led by higher prices for food. The transportation index, which includes gasoline, recorded its 10th consecutive year-over-year decline.
