Prevalence and correlates of self-reported fair or poor oral health in Canada

Oral health (OH) is an important component of overall health and quality of life. Poor OH can affect eating, drinking, speaking, sleep quality, social functioning, and self-confidence. Conversely, good OH is associated with a lower risk of cardiovascular disease and some cancers, and with longevity. By contrast, tooth loss and periodontal disease are linked to higher risks of hospitalization and disability.
