Air passenger traffic at Canadian airports decreased 5.4% in 2009.
The total number of enplaned/deplaned passengers in Canada was 103 million.
This decrease in air passenger traffic is the first contraction since 2002.
The 10-year trend for air passenger traffic in Canada is shown in Chart 1.
Domestic passenger traffic decreased 7.0% in 2009. The Transborder
(Canada-US) sector fell 6.3%. The Other International sector was the
only segment to experience growth (1.0%).
Cargo tonnages loaded and unloaded at Canadian airports decreased by 5.6%
in 2009.
Canadian airports experienced a decrease in the number of flights arriving
and departing; flights were down 1.2% in 2009.
