There were 525,823 aircraft take-offs and landings at the 93 Canadian airports with NAV CANADA air traffic control towers and flight service stations in August 2013 compared with 538,264 movements in August 2012. Year-over-year decreases were reported by 50 airports. Toronto/Lester B. Pearson International, Ontario (39,876 movements) and Vancouver International, British Columbia (31,093 movements) were the most active sites in August 2013.

Itinerant movements (flights from one airport to another) decreased 3.1% (-12,332 movements) in August 2013 from the same month the previous year. These airports reported 391,941 movements compared with 404,273 movements in August 2012. Year-over-year variations ranged from an increase of 1,029 movements (+8.5%) at Edmonton International, Alberta to a drop of 1,984 movements (-53.4%) at Fort Nelson, British Columbia. Fifty-eight airports reported year-over-year decreases in the number of itinerant aircraft movements in August 2013.

In August 2013, there were 133,882 local movements (flights that remain in the vicinity of the airport) recorded. This represents a decrease of 0.1% (-109 movements) compared with the previous year. Boundary Bay, British Columbia (10,840 movements) and Montréal/St-Hubert, Quebec (8,868 movements) recorded the largest number of local movements.

Itinerant movements: domestic, transborder and international

There were 333,916 domestic itinerant movements reported by 93 Canadian airports with NAV CANADA air traffic control towers and flight service stations in August 2013, down 3.3% (-11,335 movements) from August 2012. Year-over-year variations ranged from an increase of 999 movements (+9.4%) at Edmonton International, Alberta to a drop of 1,984 movements (-53.4%) at Fort Nelson, British Columbia. Fifty-three airports reported year-over-year decreases in the number of domestic movements in August 2013.

Eighty-seven airports recorded 46,322 transborder itinerant movements (between Canada and the United States) in August 2013, down 2.8% (-1,331 movements) from the same month in 2012. Toronto/Lester B. Pearson International, Ontario (16,004 movements) reported the greatest number of transborder itinerant movements.

In August 2013, forty-two airports reported 11,703 other international itinerant movements, up 2.9% from August 2012. Toronto/Lester B. Pearson International, Ontario, recorded 5,559 other international itinerant movements. This represents 47.5% of the total other international itinerant movements reported.
