Statistics Canada Library and BiblioCat, the Library's Catalogue

Our Products and Services
The Statistics Canada Library collects and provides access to the complete collection of Statistics Canada's documents produced in paper and electronic form. This collection is diverse and contains Statistics Canada's numbered publications as well as research papers, working papers, user guides, CD-ROMs and associated documentation and internal documents. Reference staff will help users find the information they need by searching in the collection, referring users to other sources of expertise internally and externally to Statistics Canada and providing orientation to the Library's collection and facilities. Public access to the Library is provided weekdays from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

BiblioCat, the Library's online public access catalogue of holdings, is updated to include new releases on an ongoing basis. The Library collection is for consultation only and is not for sale. Material can also be borrowed through interlibrary loan.

Historical Statistics of Canada

The second edition of Historical Statistics of Canada was jointly produced by the Social Science Federation of Canada and Statistics Canada in 1983. This volume contains more than 1,000 statistical tables on the social, economic and institutional conditions of Canada from the start of Confederation in 1867 to the mid-1970s. The electronic version of this historical publication is accessible on the Internet site of Statistics Canada as a free downloadable document.

Depository Services Program (DSP) Libraries

The DSP was established in 1927 as an essential link between the Canadian federal government and its clients–the Canadian public, other governments, universities and businesses. Its primary objective is to ensure that Canadians have ready and equal access to federal government information, including Statistics Canada publications. The DSP achieves this objective by supplying these materials to some 790 government, public and academic libraries in Canada and to another 147 institutions around the world holding collections of Canadian government publications. A list of local DSP libraries is available through the main DSP website.
