- In Canada, the number of permits issued for dwellings decreased by 15.1% in 2009, following a 10.3% decline in 2008. In the United States, the number fell 35.6% in 2009, following a 35.3% decline in 2008.
- Spain saw the largest drop in building permits among Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) countries in 2009 (-58.1%), while Korea showed the largest growth (9.0%). Two other OECD countries posted growth in 2009: Switzerland (0.4%) and Germany (0.7%).
