This article focuses on the emergence of the next generation of Canadian farm operators. The rise of adaptive and educated female farm operators in synergy with progressive and resourceful young farm operators is changing the perception of the typical farmer.

Faced with modernizing farming practises, female and young farm operators are placing greater emphasis on educational attainment. While agricultural operations evolve into large-scale, capital-intensive entities, female and young farm operators are adapting by diversifying revenue streams and acquiring farm land through innovative methods.

International trade in services is covered by a set of rules documented in the General Agreement on Trade in Services (GATS). The GATS is a multilaterally agreed legal framework for trade in services, which provides a system of enforceable obligations and commitments for services trade that apply to all members of the World Trade Organization. The GATS defines trade in services as the supply of a service through any of the four modes of supply: cross border, consumption abroad, commercial presence, and the presence of natural persons.

This study provides new evidence on TB-related hospitalizations among new immigrants to Canada. It uses a unique linked data file (2000-to-2013 Longitudinal Immigration Database (IMDB) linked to the Canadian Institute for Health Information's Discharge Abstract Database (DAD) from 2001/2002 to 2013/2014) that brings together information from immigrant landing records and hospital data for a maximum of 13 years to identify a TB-related hospital event after landing. Specifically, this paper provides a profile of the timing of TB-related acute care hospitalization, starting from the time of landing among immigrants who officially landed in Canada from 2000 to 2013, as well as an estimation of the burden of TB hospital care in Canada incurred by these recent immigrants relative to the total Canadian population.

Record linkage has been identified as a potential mechanism to add treatment information to the Canadian Cancer Registry (CCR). The purpose of the Canadian Cancer Treatment Linkage Project (CCTLP) pilot is to add surgical treatment data to the CCR. The Discharge Abstract Database (DAD) and the National Ambulatory Care Reporting System (NACRS) were linked to the CCR, and surgical treatment data were extracted. The project was funded through the Cancer Data Development Initiative (CDDI) of the Canadian Partnership Against Cancer (CPAC).

The CCTLP was developed as a feasibility study in which patient records from the CCR would be linked to surgical treatment records in the DAD and NACRS databases, maintained by the Canadian Institute for Health Information. The target cohort to whom surgical treatment data would be linked was patients aged 19 or older registered on the CCR (2010 through 2012). The linkage was completed in Statistics Canada’s Social Data Linkage Environment (SDLE).
