The first focuses on a 12-month period within 2022/2023, and provides an overview of facility characteristics, touching on shelter admissions, availability of accommodations, and general services provided. The second focuses on information for a predetermined snapshot date of April 13, 2023, and presents a profile of residents using residential facilities on this date.

The article also includes information on additional experiences of child maltreatment, including experiences of emotional abuse and neglect and witnessing violence in the home.

The focus is on experiences of violent victimization and perceptions of neighbourhood, safety, and the criminal justice system. The prevalence of gender-based violent victimization in Canada is examined using self-reported data from the 2018 Survey of Safety in Public and Private Spaces. Data from the 2019 General Social Survey (GSS) on Canadians’ Safety (Victimization) is used to explore confidence in police and criminal courts, as well as perceptions of neighbourhood cohesion and disorder. In addition, homicide data highlights the prevalence and characteristics of homicide of Indigenous women in Canada.

How are the results ordered?

The Sort by feature provides three options:

  • By date – sorts results by product release date starting with the most recent.
  • By relevance is only needed or beneficial when you use the search box and submit a search query. Results are ordered by a combination of where the search term appears in the content, e.g., if it appears in the title, it likely means the product is more relevant to your search; how up to date or new the content in the product is; how popular the product is; and other factors.
  • By title – sorts results alphabetically.
