    Description: Using data from the Survey of Emergency Preparedness and Resilience (SEPR) in Canada, these fact sheets present the risk awareness, emergency preparedness and previous experience with emergencies and disasters of Canadians aged 15 and over living in 73 communities across the provinces. The SEPR was developed in partnership with both Defence Research and Development Canada's Centre for Security Science and Public Safety Canada, and was conducted for the first time in 2014. The information presented contributes to the understanding of community resilience in Canada by examining how Canadians living in various communities prepare for and respond to emergencies or disasters.

    For decades, researchers have reported high suicide rates among Aboriginal youth, which are several times higher than rates in the non-Aboriginal population. Based on the 2012 Aboriginal Peoples Survey, this article presents estimates of suicidal thoughts among off-reserve First Nations, Métis and Inuit adults aged 18 to 25. It examines associations between past-year suicidal thoughts and mental disorders and personality factors, childhood experiences and family characteristics, and socio-demographic characteristics, many of which have been shown to be related to suicidal thoughts in other populations.

    Suicide rates are significantly higher among First Nations, Métis and Inuit than among the non-Aboriginal population, particularly for younger age groups. Suicidal thoughts, which precede suicide attempts and completions, have been reported to be higher in some Aboriginal groups compared to the non-Aboriginal population. This factsheet presents prevalence of lifetime and past-year suicidal thoughts among off-reserve First Nations, Métis and Inuit in three adult age groups (18-25, 26-59 and 65+ years), by sex, and where possible, in comparison to those of non-Aboriginal adults.

    Congenital anomalies, commonly referred to as birth defects, describe conditions that develop in the fetus at the time of conception or during pregnancy. This article presents data on trends in the average age at death, and death rates from five of the most common congenital anomalies: circulatory anomalies; Spina Bifida; and three chromosomal anomalies-Down syndrome, Edwards' syndrome and Patau's syndrome. Data from the 1974 to 2012 Canadian Vital Statistics-Deaths Database will be used to examine differences in the death rate due to congenital anomalies, among infants in Canada.

    In order to understand what drives aggregate fluctuations, many macroeconomic models point to aggregate shocks and discount the contribution of firm-specific shocks. Recent research from other developed countries, however, has found that aggregate fluctuations are in part driven by shocks to large firms. Using data on Canadian firms from the T2-LEAP database, which links financial statements from firms’ Corporate Income Tax Return with employment data from the Longitudinal Employment Analysis Program, this paper examines the contribution of large firms to industry-level fluctuations in gross output, investment and employment in the manufacturing sector.

Sociodemographic and psychiatric correlates of GAD were also examined. Multivariate analysis was conducted to determine if threshold GAD and subthreshold GAD were independently associated with suicide ideation when taking sociodemographic and comorbid psychiatric disorders into account.
