    In May, annual measures for the previous two calendar years are subject to revision. In November, estimates for the previous three years may be revised. Every five years a historical revision is done, based on the results of the Census of Agriculture. Although the data are available in late May and late November, the publication is not completed and released until the following July and January, respectively.

    With its vibrant yellow flowers, a canola field is a beautiful sight. And its colour is a clue to its family history mustard. Canola refers to a particular group of rapeseed varieties, a species of the much larger mustard family that includes, besides mustard, turnips, cauliflower, cabbage and broccoli. While these plants have been bred for their roots (turnips), leaves (cabbage) or immature flower heads (cauliflower and broccoli), the rapeseed branch of the family was bred to maximize production of the high-oil seeds that are used to produce vegetable oil.

    Based on feed coefficients, this study estimates the per animal and total provincial livestock feed requirements for grain, pasture, and harvested roughages by the various species. This release applies the coefficients to the current livestock inventories and balance sheet information for 1999, 2000 and 2001 to estimate the total tonnage consumed. It reflects any revisions made to the livestock numbers as a result of the 2001 Census of Agriculture.
