Description: This methodological document accompanies the infographic entitled “Students in private postsecondary education, 2020: Results of a feasibility study”. It describes the methodology and data limitations for the integration of the T2202 Tuition and Enrolment Certificate with the Census 2021 for the infographic. It also explores the coherence of the results across different data sources, namely the Postsecondary Student Information System (PSIS) and T1 Family File (T1FF), to validate the results. The data integration was possible due to the Education and Labour Market Longitudinal Platform (ELMLP).

Numerous studies have shown that graduates from engineering, business and mathematics programs earn considerably more than their counterparts from arts and humanities. This article estimates the earnings differences across various fields of study after adjusting for differences in high school academic performance (course marks), neighbourhood factors (income and educational attainment) and postsecondary institution effects.

Description: Using a longitudinal dataset created through the linkage of the 2006 Indigenous Peoples Survey (IPS; formerly called the Aboriginal Peoples Survey) and the 2016 long-form Census, this study examines childhood factors that are associated with the completion of a high school or greater education by young adulthood, among off-reserve First Nations, Métis and Inuit children. Bivariate results examining the likelihood of having completed high school or greater education by different childhood characteristics including socioeconomic and demographic ones are presented for First Nations children living off reserve, and Métis and Inuit children separately. These characteristics were chosen based on previous literature. Using a pooled sample, it examines the association between childhood factors and the outcome using multivariate analysis to account for confounding factors.

The paper will show how, using data published by Statistics Canada and available from member libraries of the CREPUQ, a linkage approach using postal codes makes it possible to link the data from the outcomes file to a set of contextual variables. These variables could then contribute to producing, on an exploratory basis, a better index to explain the varied outcomes of students from schools. In terms of the impact, the proposed index could show more effectively the limitations of ranking students and schools when this information is not given sufficient weight.

This report describes changes planned for the 2006 Census education questions. Education questions are a part of the Form 2B (the long form) of the census. This form is completed by 20% of all households. These changes were tested in the May 2004 Census test of over 300,000 households. The changes aim to address data limitations in the 2001 Census questions and to enhance their relevance to education studies by allowing a better reflection of the range of educational pathways taken by Canadians. The report includes an explanation of the reasons for modifying the 2006 Census education content, a detailed look at each of the changes, and a discussion on historical consistency.

While it is not always possible to measure the actual bias due to non-response, there are different approaches that help identify potential sources of non-response bias. In the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES), surveys with a response rate lower than 70% must conduct a non-response bias analysis. This paper presents the Second Summit of the Americas Regional Education Indicators Project (PRIE), whose basic goal is to develop a set of comparable indicators for the Americas. This project is led by the Ministry of Education of Chile and has been developed in response to the countries' needs to improve their information systems and statistics. The countries need to construct reliable and relevant indicators to support decisions in education, both within their individual countries and the region as a whole. The first part of the paper analyses the importance of statistics and indicators in supporting educational policies and programs, and describes the present state of the information and statistics systems in these countries. It also discusses the major problems faced by the countries and reviews the countries' experiences in participating in other education indicators' projects or programs, such as the INES Program, WEI Project, MERCOSUR and CREMIS. The second part of the paper examines PRIE's technical co-operation program, its purpose and implementation. The second part also emphasizes how technical co-operation responds to the needs of the countries, and supports them in filling in the gaps in available and reliable data.
