Description: Statistics Canada's Quality of Employment in Canada publication is intended to provide Canadians and Canadian organizations with a better understanding of quality of employment using an internationally-supported statistical framework. Quality of employment is approached as a multidimensional concept, characterized by different elements, which relate to human needs in various ways. To cover all relevant aspects, the framework identified seven dimensions and twelve sub-dimensions of quality of employment.

Description: Recent trade tensions between the United States (U.S.) and Canada have raised questions around the impact of potential job losses related to tariffs. A recent article revealed that, in general, jobs in industries dependent on U.S. demand for Canadian exports (IDUSCEXs) are well-paying and have many favourable non-wage job characteristics, but not all industries within the broader IDUSCEX grouping ranked relatively high in these measures. The current article follows up this work by investigating the socioeconomic characteristics of workers employed in IDUSCEXs, which could play a key role in how affected workers might adapt to potential job losses.

Description: Previous research indicates that immigrants who obtain citizenship in the receiving country gain various benefits, including enhanced legal status, expanded rights, increased political and civic engagement, and a stronger sense of collective identity and belonging. However, empirical studies remain inconclusive on whether acquiring citizenship improves immigrants' labour market outcomes. This paper asks two questions. First, is Canadian citizenship correlated with better economic outcomes among immigrants in Canada? Second, if so, does citizenship acquisition lead to an improvement in labour market outcomes?

This paper is an overview of the activities undertaken by Statistics Canada over the past several decades in the field of measuring and valuing unpaid work in all of its many forms. It was first prepared in the early 1990s when the Agency's accomplishments in the field of unpaid work were not as widely known as Statistics Canada would have liked. With each significant new achievement of the Agency, this note has been updated and further updates will be produced in step with the Agency's continuing outputs in this important area.
