Chart 3
Police-reported Crime Severity Index, by province and territory, 2021 to 2025

bar clustered chart&8211;Chart3,
Note(s):
The Crime Severity Index is based on Criminal Code incidents, including traffic violations, as well as other federal statute violations. The base index was set at 100 for 2006 for Canada. Areas with smaller populations are more susceptible to year-to-year variation in Crime Severity Index and crime rate values. As a result, relatively small changes in the number or severity of police-reported incidents can have a greater impact on values for these areas, particularly in the territories. Populations are based on July 1 estimates from Statistics Canada, Centre for Demography.
