Production of drinkable milks (standard milk, 1% milk, 2% milk, skim milk, chocolate and other flavoured milk, buttermilk and eggnog) declined 0.4% from June 2017 to 194 357 kilolitres in June. Meanwhile, production of creams (all creams excluding ice cream and sour cream) rose 1.8% to 29 004 kilolitres in June.
Over the 12-month period July 2017 to June 2018, the total production of milk and cream was 2 792 099 kilolitres. Compared with the same 12-month period five years earlier (July 2013 to June 2014), production has fallen by 3.8%. The amounts of specific types of milk and cream produced have also changed. Production of cream (+15.3%) and standard milk (+8.2%) increased over the five-year period. In contrast, production of skim (-26.1%) and partially skimmed milks, that is, 1% and 2% milk (-6.4%), declined over the same period, indicating a shift towards more full-fat products.
