Commercial and Industrial Machinery and Equipment Rental and Leasing Services Price Index, second quarter 2019

The Commercial and Industrial Machinery and Equipment Rental and Leasing Services Price Index increased 0.6% in the second quarter, following a 0.1% rise in the first quarter.

Rental prices for construction, transportation, mining and forestry machinery and equipment were up 0.3%, while rental prices for office and other commercial and industrial machinery and equipment increased 0.9%.

Year-over-year change

The index rose 0.1% in the second quarter compared with the same quarter in 2018.

The increase was the result of higher rental prices for the office and other commercial and industrial machinery and equipment rental and leasing industry (+0.7%). Prices for the construction, transportation, mining, and forestry machinery and equipment rental and leasing industry decreased (-0.1%), moderating the annual growth.

The Commercial and Industrial Machinery and Equipment Rental and Leasing Services Price Index (CIMERLSPI) measures price changes of rental and leasing activities for the commercial and industrial machinery and equipment industry.

Data are available at the Canada level only.

With each release, data for the previous quarter may have been revised. The series are also subject to an annual revision with the release of second quarter data for the following reference year. The index is not seasonally adjusted.

The CIMERLSPI combines North American Industry Classification System codes 53242 and 53249.
