Individual and institutional investors in the Canadian housing market

In this article, the Canadian Housing Statistics Program (CHSP) is releasing data on investors (i.e., owners of at least one residential property that they do not use as their principal residence) in the residential housing market by investor size. Concentration in the residential housing market is analyzed for the 2022 reference year in Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Ontario, Manitoba and British Columbia.

The homeownership trajectories of recent immigrants

This article examines homeownership among recent immigrants to Canada and their pathways leading up to homeownership. It combines information from the Canadian Housing Statistics Program on homeowners in seven provinces—Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Ontario, Manitoba, Alberta, and British Columbia—with immigration data for individuals that were admitted as permanent residents between 2017 and 2021. This is the second in a series of articles published in Housing Statistics in Canada investigating homeownership among newcomers to Canada.

Millennials in the Canadian housing market: An intergenerational comparison

The article details the household living arrangements and homeownership status of three generations of Canadians (Millennials, Generation X, and Baby Boomers) when they were aged 25 to 39.
