The total value of output of Canadian mineral production, excluding petroleum and natural gas, increased from the $34.2 billion recorded in 2006 to $40.4 billion in 2007, an increase of 17.9 percent.
The total value of metallic mineral production increased by 25.1 percent from $21.1 billion in 2006 to $26.3 billion in 2007. Nickel, copper, uranium, iron ore, gold and zinc were the leading metals in Canada in terms of their values of production.
The value of output of the non-metallic group increased from $10.3 billion in 2006 to $11.3 billion in 2007, a 9.5 percent increase. Shipments of potash, the leading mineral in this group, increased by 40.2 percent in value from the corresponding 2006 levels.
The value of coal decreased by 4.3 percent from $2.9 billion in 2006 to $2.8 billion in 2007.
