  • The total value of output of Canadian mineral production, excluding petroleum and natural gas, increased from the $27.4 billion recorded in 2005 to $33.6 billion in 2006, an increase of 22.7 percent.
  • The total value of metallic mineral production increased by 45.4 percent from $14.6 billion in 2005 to $21.2 billion in 2006.  Nickel, copper, iron ore, gold, zinc and uranium were the leading metals in Canada in terms of their values of production.
  • The value of output of the non-metallic group decreased from $10.5 billion in 2005 to $10.2 billion in 2006, a 2.7 percent decrease.  Shipments of potash, the leading mineral in this group, decreased by 9.2 percent in value from the corresponding 2005 levels.
  • The value of coal decreased by 5.3 percent from $2.3 billion in 2005 to $2.2 billion in 2006.
