Distribution categories

The DHEA for income, consumption and saving include seven separate distribution categories. Households are grouped by equivalized household disposable income quintile, province or territory, age group, household type, housing tenure, main source of household income, and generation. These groupings are based on definitions used in the SPSD/M and SHS, with the exception of equivalized household disposable income and main source of household income. When possible, the distribution variables are crossed together to give more detailed distributions. In particular, beginning with the release in June 2020, the DHEA also includes cross-tabulated distributions by quintile and age, by province and age, and by province and quintile for the totals for household disposable income and household final consumption expenditure. Over time, in addition to exploring the feasibility of providing greater detail within each distribution category, efforts will be made to include additional distribution categories consistent with OECD recommendations, such as labour force status and educational attainment.
