Provincial and Territorial Economic Accounts

The diverse nature of the Canadian economy has given rise to the need for a set of detailed and comparable provincial and territorial economic accounts. The provincial and territorial economic accounts represent a geographic elaboration of the national economic accounts. They provide measures of gross domestic product (GDP) and its components by province and territory.

Their focus is on measuring production, income arising from production, intermediate and final expenditures. Macroeconomic indicators such as gross domestic product, general government expenditure and household disposable income by province and territory are key outputs of the system.

The provincial and territorial economic accounts include detailed sectoral tables for the household sector, with similar tables for the general government sector, which are based on certain arbitrary allocations of federal revenues and expenditures by province and territory.
