Description: Sustainable Development Goals: Goal 12, Responsible Consumption and Production

An estimated 11.2 million tonnes, equivalent to $49 billion of avoidable food loss and waste* occurs along the Canadian food value chain annually

*Food that is grown, raised, caught, or harvested for human consumption, but never eaten is considered to be food loss and waste.

In 2018, more than 43,000 zero-emission vehicles (ZEV) were registered in Canada for the first time

  • 518 ZEV were registered in 2011
  • 41% of new ZEV were registered in Quebec in 2018

Note: Zero-emission vehicles are battery electric vehicles (BEV) or plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV) with the potential to produce no tailpipe emissions.

In 2016, Canadians required 7.7 global hectares per person to meet their needs, the fourth highest ecological footprint in the world
