Residential services are excluded from the Victim Services Survey. Information
on these service providers is collected by the Transition Home Survey (THS).

Victim service providers were asked to provide information for the previous 12-month
period ending March 31, 2012 or their own 12-month fiscal
period. Victim service providers were asked to provide snapshot day information
for May 24, 2012, or, if not possible, the next working day when
they served victims.
Crime victim assistance
centres in Quebec, called Centres d’aide aux victims d’actes criminels
(CAVACs), are classified as this type of victim service. CAVACs are non-profit
organizations made up mainly of professionals working in the area of social
intervention, such as social workers, psychologists, and criminologists.
Compensation-related
services do not include dedicated criminal injuries compensation programs
or other financial benefit programs.
The estimated response rate for this survey was 83%. Where respondents
were unable to provide information, the percentage of respondents reporting

than females to be victims of non-violent offences (such as theft or destruction
of property) (21% versus 7%). Male victims were also more likely than
females to be victims of non-sexual violent offences involving someone other
than a spouse, ex-spouse, intimate partner, or other family member (35% versus 14%).
