Intimate partner violence includes violence committed by a current or former legally married spouse, common-law partner, boyfriend or girlfriend. Percent calculations based on the proportion of people in a current intimate relationship or who had contact with a former partner in the 12 months preceding the survey.

Note 2

Women who experienced daily, weekly or monthly instances of intimate partner violence include those who experienced one or more types of intimate partner violence in the past 12 months, and at least one type occurred more than once during that time. "A few times" includes women who experienced one or more types of intimate partner violence in the past 12 months where at least one type occurred a few times but none occurred more frequently. Women who experienced one instance of intimate partner violence includes those who experienced one or more types of intimate partner violence in the past 12 months but no specific type occurred more than once. If multiple behaviours were each reported as happening once, this is considered once for the purposes of the frequency measure in this table, though in some instances these may have been separate occurrences.
