Includes conditional sentence, fine, absolute or conditional discharge or suspended sentence, community service order, victim fine surcharge, compensation, pay innocent purchaser, compensation in kind, victim offender reconciliation program, mediation program, restitution program, other community-based program, prohibition/seizure or forfeiture order, hospital order, restorative justice sentence, apology, essay/letter, deferred custody and community supervision and other.

Other decisions include final decisions of found not criminally responsible and waived out of province or territory. This category also includes any order where a guilty decision was not recorded, the court's acceptance or a special plea, cases which raise Charter arguments and cases where the accused was found unfit to stand trial.

Note: Data are based on both adult and youth criminal court cases, of which adult cases comprise 84%. A decision is a judgement made by the court. A case is one or more against an accused person or company that were processed by the courts at the same time and received a final decision. Cases are represented by the charge with the most serious decision, which may not have been the charge in a case that linked to a hate crime incident. Data exclude information from superior courts in Prince Edward Island, Ontario, Manitoba and Saskatchewan, as well as municipal courts in Quebec due to the unavailability of data. Data also exclude information for the municipal police services of Saint John, Québec, Toronto, and Calgary for the year 2013. For 2014 and 2015, the municipal police services of Saint John, Québec, and Calgary were excluded. In 2016, the municipal police service of Calgary was excluded. In 2017, the municipal police service of Saint John was excluded. In 2018, the municipal police service of Calgary was excluded. Data includes any counts that occurred within the jurisdiction of police services not reporting to UCR2.2, but that were investigated by other police services that do report, such as the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, the Ontario Provincial Police, or the Sûreté du Québec. Incidents where the incident file number was missing were also excluded from the data. Guilty cases may have more than one sentence imposed, therefore the sum of sentences will not equal the number of guilty cases. Total includes incidents where hate crime type was unknown. When the hate crime type was missing for the charge that was initially linked, the type was copied over from another charge in the case, where applicable.
