Note: Restorative justice (RJ) participants include youth who had contact with the Nova Scotia Restorative Justice Program for a Criminal Code offence, violations of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act or other federal statues, with cases starting between April 1, 2009 and March 31, 2010. Includes youth who were referred to restorative justice, whether or not they participated. Information on the Nova Scotia comparison group is from the UCR. In the UCR, an accused record is collected for each individual accused in the incident. If an individual is accused in more than one incident, that individual will be counted multiple times as one accused for each separate incident. The study does not include information on youth who were referred to the Mi’kmaw Customary Law Program of the Mi’kmaw Legal Support Network. Type of offence is based on the most serious violation recorded in the case.
