Same-/opposite-sex status was derived from the relationship variable, and the sex of the victim and of the accused. Excludes homicides where the sex or the age of the victim or the accused were unknown, or where the accused-victim relationship was unknown. Homicides involving children under 15 years are excluded from the analysis. There may be a small number of homicides in a given year's total that occurred in previous years.
