Note 1.

The length of custody sentences excludes time spent in detention before sentencing and the credit for the time spent before the sentence is handed down. The length of custodial sentences could be affected if the sentence was served in pre-trial detention. For example, “time served,” or time spent in detention before the court decision and sentencing (which is not uncommon for more serious offences), is likely to affect the length of the sentence.

A case that involves more than one charge is represented by the most serious offence. Cases involving multiple offences include all charges in the case, regardless of whether they resulted in a guilty verdict.
