Non-family violence refers to violence committed by acquaintances, friends, neighbours, authority figures (e.g., teacher, daycare worker), dating partners, criminal associates, business associates and strangers. 3. Rates are calculated on the basis of 100,000 populations. Populations based upon July 1st estimates from Statistics Canada, Demography Division. Note: Excludes incidents where the sex and/or age of victim was unknown and where the relationship between the victim and the accused was unknown. Excludes spousal victims under the age of 15 years.
