Confidence intervals indicate the precision of an estimate. Confidence intervals are usually set at 95%, which means that 95% of the time, the true value will fall within the confidence interval. Wide confidence intervals indicate that there is high variability associated with the estimate, thus, the estimate should be interpreted and compared with due caution. When two estimates have confidence intervals that overlap (i.e. a number can occur within both intervals) this means that there is no statistically significant difference between the estimates.
