Mental Health and Well-being

This Internet publication provides free data tables and general
information on the Mental Health and Well-being component of the
Canadian Community Health Survey (CCHS).
The survey was conducted in 2002 with 36,984 respondents, aged
15 or over, residing in households in each province. It provides information
on:
- the health status of the population including physical,
mental and social well-being;
- the use of mental health care services such as visits to the doctor,
admissions to hospitals and the use of medications;
- the factors that influence mental health such as work and lifestyle.
Topics include lifetime and past 12 month prevalence of various
mental disorders (major depressive episode, manic episode, panic disorder, agoraphobia,
social
phobia), mental health problems (alcohol and drug dependence,
gambling, suicide, eating trouble), access to and use of mental health
care services; disability associated with mental health.
The survey also collected information on determinants and
correlates of mental health such as socio-demographic
information, income,
stress, medication use and social support.
