Correction Notice

Corrections have been made to this product. Please take note of the following changes:
Corrections have been made to the Ontario Health Regions (OHR) data and maps on the following pages.

The Ontario Health Regions (OHR) data has been removed from the following page as it shouldn’t have been included.

Corrections have been made to the 2016 comprehensive correspondence file. Because the HRUID2023 (3566) for the 35010327022-dissemination block was incorrect. That number has been replaced by 3558.

This issue describes in detail the health region limits as of September 2023 and their correspondence with the 2021 and 2016 Census geography. Health regions are defined by the provinces and represent administrative areas or regions of interest to health authorities. This product contains correspondence files (linking health regions to census geographic codes) and boundary files. User documentation provides an overview of health regions, sources, methods, limitations and product description (file format and layout).

What’s New?

  • Newfoundland and Labrador introduced changes to the boundaries and attributes of the health regions, increasing the number of health regions from four to five.
  • New Brunswick retained seven health regions, each with identical names and codes. However, as of January 1, 2023, most of these health regions adhere to the new census subdivisions (CSD) limits, prompting the need for dissemination block splits.
  • Ontario replaced Home and Community Care Support Services (HCCSS) with Ontario Health Regions (OHR), reusing six pre-existing HCCSS codes with new names.
  • Manitoba modified the names of the five health regions while retaining the same codes.
  • Saskatchewan updated the code attributes of all seven health regions, associating new codes with the existing names of its seven HRs.

For detailed information about changes to health regions’ code attributes and names, see Appendix 1 Summary of changes to health regions, 2022 and 2023.
