Note 1.

Full-time equivalent enrolments (from Table C.2.1) divided by full-time equivalent educators (from Table C.2.2). The student-educator ratio is not the same as the student-teacher ratio. The student-educator ratio includes teachers and non-teaching staff (personnel outside of the classroom, such as principals, counselors and specialists).

Note 2.

Educational assistants are not included.

Note 3.

In Saskatchewan, figures for full-time equivalent educators include "historic high schools", but the figures for full-time equivalent enrolments do not.

Note 4.

Data for Alberta prior to 2004/2005 are not comparable with more recent data due to a change in methodology.

Notes: Due to the nature of the Summary, Elementary-Secondary School Indicators for Canada, the Provinces and Territories Survey, data collection, these data are updated on an ongoing basis and are therefore subject to further revisions. These data are for publicly funded schools only and do not include private schools and federal schools.
Care should be taken with cross jurisdictional comparisons. The proportion of educators (comprising a mix of teachers, administrators and pedagogical support) and their respective remuneration differ in each jurisdiction.
