Labour market and income data guide March 2001 Federal Government Employment and Payroll
Description: The data collected and disseminated cover monthly information on the number of employees and payroll of federal government and government enterprises which together form the federal government statistical universe. The data are used internally by Statistics Canada as input to the System of National Accounts, to the Survey of Employment, Payroll and Hours and externally by officials from all government levels, the Treasury Board Secretariat, the media, unions and researchers. The information is used for comparison and analysis studies of public sector expenditures and financial resources. How the data is collected: Monthly tapes from administrative sources and some questionnaires are sent to entities not included on the tapes. Geographic detail: Canada, provinces, metropolitan areas, census metropolitan areas Information collected: Sex Frequency: Monthly Data availability: Electronic series: 1981 to 2000 Reference period: Month (released quarterly) Release dates: Monthly data are released on Cansim four times a year, 75 days after the end of the reference quarter. Response rates: The use of administrative data allows for a response rate of 100% (normal) and availability of budgetary estimates and public accounts for cross-checking to ensure very high quality.
