The initial institutional unit list, center portion, contains all federal, provincial-territorial, municipal governments units and the government business enterprises they control, as well as education and health in alphabetical order. The list can be customized using several filters, available on the left side. Once an institutional unit is selected in the list, additional information is displayed in the institutional unit details, on the right side.
Using filters (province, public sector component, NAICS and year)
Click “Select” in any filter boxes and make a selection from the proposed list. More filter selections can be applied. To remove individual filters, click the “X” icon next to it and, to remove all filters, click the “Reset filters” button.
Examples provided below illustrate how filters can be used to create customized lists:
To create a customized list of institutional units of the provincial government of Ontario active in year 2010, select: “Ontario” from the province filter, “Provincial-Territorial Government” from the public sector component filter, “Active in year” from the “Select time type” and finally, select 2010 in from “Select year”.
To create a customized list of institutional units in the Provincial Regulatory Services industry for the provincial government of Ontario since 2008, select: “Ontario” from the province filter, “Provincial-Territorial Government” from the public sector component filter, “Provincial Regulatory Services” from the NAICS filter, “First year in Public Sector Universe” from the “Select time type” and finally, select 2008 in from “Select year”.
To create a customized list of institutional units that exited the Public Sector during 2012, select: “Last year in Public Sector Universe” from the “Select time type” and finally, select 2012 in from “Select year”.
Obtaining additional institutional unit details
Click on the institutional unit name in the list to display its additional information in the Institutional Unit details section on the right side.
Additional information include legal name (in one or both official language when available), date of entry or exit from the public sector, province of residence, Standard Geographical Classification, institutional sector, industry classification and comments when relevant.
Searching for a specific institutional unit
Enter search text in the search box and click on the magnifying glass. Search text and results can be cleared by clicking “X” in the search box or the “Clear” button. Search tool is not case sensitive and does not support special operators (and, or, *).
Using Copy and Print Functions
There is a copy function in the institutional unit list section and the institutional unit detail section. Simply click the copy function and you will be ready to paste the contents in the software of your choice (e.g. MS Word, Excel etc). The copy function in the institutional unit list section copies the entire list and also includes corresponding details for each entity (e.g. English and French name, First year in, Last year in, Province, SGC, Public Sector Component, NAICS and comments. The copy function in the institutional unit detail section copies the same type of details for a selected entity. Clicking the print function in the institutional unit detail section prints details for a selected entity (e.g. English and French name, First year in, Last year in, Province, SGC, Public Sector Component, NAICS and comments).
